New to BH? This post does not contain spoilers, but the comments might...

Ìý

Gearing up to shoot a new series is a mammoth job.Ìý With a tight time schedule, an even tighter budget, and hundreds of cast, crew and tea ladies to organise, you'd surely have to be a bit bonkers to put yourself in charge.

Ìý

However, it turns out you can actually be reasonably sane, as we discovered when we met up with Being Human Producer Matt Bouch and Executive Producer Rob Pursey, to find out how they're making BH2 come to life.

Thanks guys, that was good but:

    1) Where exactly is this block of flats (research purposes only)
    2) Don't try to improve it too much , really it is pretty OK as it is
    3) Swine flu?? They are a ghost, a werewolf and a vampire...how the
hell are they going to catch swine flu Duh!!

But, seriously, mainly 2. You cannot improve on perfection....what is it ? If it aint broke....don't fix it.

    Thanks again

    Just a thought...

    Matt Bouch
    Mighty Boosh any relation??

    Sorry, I'll go away now.

I agree with Vampfan that making it bigger and trying to improve it might be a mistake. I mean obviously make it better if possible but don't try and make it this huge spectacular thing. So many shows have fallen into this pitfall of thinking that they need to make each series bigger than the last. (see my previous rantings about shows such as Doctor Who and Supernatural). But what in my opinion needs to be done is to make a series that is consistently good.

The thing is that you can only get bigger so much before getting onto stuff that just isn't plausible. The thing that is so wonderful about Being Human is that it could be happening. I mean obviously no one with sense really believes in Vampires, werewolves (not going to mention ghosts because some people do believe in them and I have my own theories.. yeah) but how do we know? If it was kept secret enough there could really be a vampire, a werewolf and a ghost living in bristol right under our noses.

So yeah just don't try and destroy the world or something like that. Improve the quality sure, iron out the little things. But don't go too far.

sorry ranting again. I need some sort of anti-rant therapy or something. :/

I had a conversation yesterday about how fans should not influence a show mainly because we are all amazingly obsessed and weird but also because it could take away from the original pull of the series. We decided that no series writer, producer etc should read fan stuff.
I have confidence that these two amazingly good looking, talented and brilliant producers (I know that they will read this and give us what we asked for in series 2 ;) ) won't be too fazed by the imagined pressure of previous success.
It's all good with me and most people on here I guess. Just don't mention the DVD...

  • Comment number 6.

ITA. I have long held that what fandom wants and what fandom *thinks* it wants are two very different things. Witness "Snakes on a Plane".

Not only does it engender an ugly sense of entitlement, it ultimately robs the show of dramatic tension. If you know that the fans can change the writers' minds (to, for example, bring back Ianto/Tara/Wash/etc.), then you know that the writers won't be able to push and challenge the audience.

  • Comment number 7.

I think without doubt that we can and do influence them on these pages but surely not in the actual progs.
Readng back on my (1)I wasn't suggesting that they should not make it as fab as possible(every confidence in them) but I just feel they know, mainly from our reaction how great it was and I just worry that...don't know, got myself in a knot now....just don't try too hard guys, you don't have to, it was fab when you took a leap into the dark last time, it will be fab again.

  • Comment number 8.

I will not waste my(or our, if I speak for the other regulars on these pages) time by defending this 'ugly sense of entitlement' However I feel you insult Mr. Whithouse's intelligence and integrity with your suggestion. I think the guy is his own man and whilst he is willing to indulge us on this blog....I am almost certain he knows where series 2 is going without any influence from us!!

  • Comment number 9.

I agree that sometimes it can be a mistake to let fans influence a show. Especially with stuff like ship and slash. But I think that see what the fans like about an already existing show might be a good idea. But more general things nothing specific.

  • Comment number 10.

Loved this Matt and Rob ...would have been great for Ö÷²¥´óÐã to have increased the budget for BH2 based on the great response to BH1 but agree that a non-increased budget leads to more creativity on how things are shot/produced etc. And are fab trio may be recognised out on location.....Russell will be lapping this up,,,don't know about the beautiful one who is, i believe , inherently a shy person.
Vampfan..go girl! Would love to think that anyone associated with the cast and crew actually read the blog but agree with your thoughts.,,
Changing the subject somewhat....a little thought as I sip glass of vino after feeding Man....

whilst we're waiting for the BH Production team to bring us snippets from filming/interviews etc of BH2, and whilst the techno amazing souls who produce the fanvideos on Youtube for BH1 have exhausted their material (I am bowing down to such souls as my talents do not run to providing such fanvideo clips)...how about we have a discussion/competition as to which fanvideo on Youtube for BH1 was the best? ( I'm excluding here all Comic con stuff and still recovering from leonora619 actually meeting the beautiful one in person)...
Let me start us off...I nominate the Annie/Mitchaell video set to Need by Hana Pastel...not just the most beautiful heart-rending music but also the most beautiful clips...( still trying to get Man to cry to this)

  • Comment number 11.

    Meh.

Are we talking about the same film? Whatever, I'll take the fall if not. 'Snakes on a plane' was brilliant. I LOVE horror films but they kinda all get the same after a while. My ultimate fear is that of snakes *shudders*. So that silly little comedy film actually terrified me. There were fans of that before it was filmed??? Weird.

I agree with vampfan. None of us here have any sense of entitlement ugly or Leto like. We are just loyal, fairly intelligent fans who hope that the people involved get the acknowlegment they deserve for a great series and blog.

  • Comment number 12.

brown::...fanvids... It is 'Michell/Paint it Black' for me: Loved that one and if I am not mistaken by our very own Cieria from what seems like years ago now. Fab Fab Fab

  • Comment number 13.

Yes, I do know how to spell Mitchell.

  • Comment number 14.

Awww thanks vampfan. That was my very first fanvid. =)

  • Comment number 15.

Twas my pleasure....indeed it is every time I watch it ahem!!

  • Comment number 16.

SuperOchre:...yes let's please mention the appalling DVD of Series 1...no pilot, no extras, no music as on TV production...I've already complained to Ö÷²¥´óÐã about this as I bought it for family out of country...if anyone out there is listening the fans deserve..
    a) the actual production as put out on TV with soundtrack and
    b) more than this in order to buy the DVD.
Most of us have DVD recorders/hardrives and don't need to buy the DVd,,,what makes us buy it/them are the extras provided re pilots/interviews/backstories etc...please wake up Ö÷²¥´óÐã!

    vampfan..note your favoured fanvideo
Anyone else want to contribute to fanvideo competition?..it's just that I have time this eve as Man is in rapture due to channel 18 having a a Beyonce evening...nuff said.

  • Comment number 17.

lol. Well glad you're still enjoying it! :) I should make more vids at somepoint... Probably never gonna get round to it though lol

  • Comment number 18.

Brown(16): They explained at the time that they couldn't put on the proper music due to copyright reasons.

  • Comment number 19.

Oh and the Fanvid thing: Check out eagle's channel she's done a lot of good stuff. She's eagleeyes4444

  • Comment number 20.

Brown...trust me, you really don't want to go there with the DVD...if it is possible to have a riot on a blog we nearly did. Sperkii and eagle have only just calmed down.

  • Comment number 21.

I'm not sure whether I've got the number of 4s right in Eagle's channel name. :/ Oh well I'm sure she'll tell you when she next comes on. lol

  • Comment number 22.

Yes, eagle has done some really good ones too. I am almost certain it is 4x4s.

Well thats me for tonight kids, sorry about the little outburst earlier....not a good time of the month to be upsetting Aunty Vamp.

    Night night all...be good

  • Comment number 23.

I wish I could watch these exclusive videos. I feel so out of the loop. Checked out the eagle fan videos. Nicely done. It's only the mid afternoon here in California, so I'm gonna check out the rest of the fan videos before leaving the office.

  • Comment number 24.

Cieria:..repect for fan videos...I preferred If I was a vampire to Piant it Black but both likw wow...
eagle:..loved the fact that you tried to put back some of stuff missing from DVD.
Still think that my nomination for best fanvideo has it.
Ok..too late to winge about DVD but don't accept about copyright restictions...film makers/other producers deal with this all the time and don't have an issue...could it be Ö÷²¥´óÐã not willing to pay?

  • Comment number 25.

possibly. Moats need cleaning and all that.

eagle and C have the best vids.

  • Comment number 26.

Ok I haven't read comments etc yet just got back from 13 hour shift a little cream crackered if I'm honest - I can't watch the video til wednesday :-( as always but I LOVE these two so thanks for this video :-D

Oh and hope first day filming went well :-)

  • Comment number 27.

#6 Kind of agree although they should bring back Ianto lol Ok so Gareth doesn't want to do it but Torchwood just won't be Torchwood without the Jack/Ianto action.

Totally agree with what's been said re "if it aint broke don't fix it" but I don't think we need to worry - Toby himself said that in one of his interviews :-)

Hehe yes it is 4 4's on youtube lol figured that was easy to remember because someones already taken it with one 4! Thanks for checking them out :-)

Oh and yes DON'T start us on the DVD! I still haven't recovered and since recieving my Torchwood DVD's I'm even worse - BH DVD team could learn a thing or two AWESOME extra's so ahem take note! Although I have to say extra's wise they maybe would say that its because we get them all on here instead but still...hmph lol.

    Think thats all...

  • Comment number 28.

Oh but I must say thanks to the title of this page I now have springtime for hitler stuck in my head lol thanks you lot!

  • Comment number 29.

Favourite fan video either the sexy vampire one or George/Mitchell set to Goodbye My Almost Lover (although I don't want to be accused of promoting this terrible slash thing *coughs* because obviously that would just be unforgiveable)
I'm looking forward to seeing all the behind the scenes stuff they come up with while they're filming series 2 and good luck to the cast/crew with the making of it.

  • Comment number 30.

Just caught up with the producers - I love the idea of the actors all sharing a block of flats whilst on location, bet they won't tell us where that is.

  • Comment number 31.

Sorry, but I cannot see any of the videos that have been put up in the last while. I would really like to see them.
Maybe Youtube postage is in order(am just saying)

  • Comment number 32.

OK, I was *trying* to agree, but let me try this again.

As a fan, naturally I love the idea that our feedback gets heard, and that the cast and crew know that we love them to pieces, but the dark side of that kind of access is that some fans... take it badly.

    That's all.

  • Comment number 33.

In the future you may have a problem if you want to move location from the house, for whatever reason. There is something called the Heart Stone (may be directly related to the Hearthstone). The sort of soul of the house. Can't remember the exact myth/superstition and can't even find it on the internet. But anyway, it could be relocated taking the ghost haunting with it. Like the phylactery of a lich (or horcrux of voldemort in Harry Potter).

Just a possible solution to be helpful while I was thinking about it.

I think I just bled my geekness dry.

  • Comment number 34.

Just like to say I'm glad it's coming back. Nice to be proud of a British show.

In fact it is nice to have a British show that is well written and acted and isn't about selling a house, buying a house, painting a house, painting a house in 60mins, entertaining guests in a house, killing rats in a house, cleaning a house, getting voted out of a house, selling all your junk from your house or being publicly humilated.

    Keep it up forever pleeeease.

  • Comment number 35.

    PhanXu2..brill comment..you've brightened my day!

  • Comment number 36.

About the DVD...I have checked all the sources I can think of for an American (reg 1) version release date and there is none.

I wonder if that means they are going to re do it? Include the music, make it better now that they have more cash?

From what I can tell, its doing very well here on Ö÷²¥´óÐãAmer

I hope so from the comments above.

  • Comment number 37.

Catching up on videos that dont work when im at home and this is a great one :-) Matt Bouch is a rather sexy man is he not :-) as if we needed another one on BH set lol and as for seeing your mistakes...thats one of the best bits hehe speaking of mistakes...please please please can we have some of the outakes on the next dvdvd or on here - they're one of my favourite bits and I'm sure even the magnificent 3 **** up occasionally :-)

  • Comment number 38.

Yay, can't wait till series 2.

They shouldn't worry 2 much bout not being able to afford improving the special effects. Wen rob is sayin tht they cud just hav amazing special effects and impress the audience bt they dont hav da money so they hav to make it work thru good characters and story lines nd stuff like tht.

I wud much rather hav a good story line than amazing special efects. there r so many films and tv programmes tht hav gr8 special effects but screw up the plot nd its gud to know being human isnt going down tht route. I thought the special effects in series 1 were gud eough anyway.

I luv watchin bloopers 2 so im happy to hear tht e'll hopefully get to see some.

Lol wen Aidan and Russel were dancing! They shud enter strictly come dancing or summit!

    X :)
