Annie's door... George's violence... Mitchell's meetings... It's another powerful night in the Being Human calendar. But this week we're going behind the scenes to find out more about a very special character... Sykes.

Ah Sykes. You are a complicated man. Hero? Coward? Bit of both? Either way, his impact on Annie's life has been undeniable. He simultaneously taught her how to fight off the men from the other side and made her think about what a ghost's life really is... and whether the other side might actually be the better option.

So this week we've gone on set to take another look at this brilliant character. One thing's for sure... Sykes, we will miss you.

I was so suprised that George is having trouble with his 'curse' it's terrible I was happy to see him being normal again and was so funny him teaching English WOW though Mitchell needs to cheer up, pronto!

  • Comment number 3.

  • Comment number 5.

  • Comment number 8.

no but what is going on with george

  • Comment number 9.

    New post(:
Ahhh such a great episode, I wanna give George a hug :(
Really a good idea to have them living with him though?

  • Comment number 10.

I’m glad Kemp is the really bad one. Lucy saved Nine and is interested in learning not harming them.

  • Comment number 11.

    Ahhh I agree with (7)
    Gilbert fun ;)

  • Comment number 12.

i think nina is key to this we are not loosing her

  • Comment number 13.

Russell Tovey you are one brilliant actor....

  • Comment number 14.

Great episode - not too much blood!!!

  • Comment number 15.

Poor george, trying to control the uncontrolable, though tbh the guy had it coming. Sykes was sweet, but Gilbert ftw definatly. :)

  • Comment number 16.

I wanna see next episode now xD
    darn it haha
I hope George recovers! He needs a girl again me thinks!

  • Comment number 17.

    looks like Tourette's syndrome!!

Oh... and Eagle... you mentioned M's choice in pants but I'm thinking that scene is from the past... we can forgive PAST fashion disaters!! (I mean look at his walk through time bit in Season one... plus I doubt they had very good undies back when he was human, lol!.

Poor poor George! I really feel for him!

Yay! Nina is saved!! well... till next full moon... and Lucy is right... the sign of insanity is doing the same thing over but expecting different results! But I still hate Lucy!!! But I like George's new girl.. she's nice!

  • Comment number 18.

Maddmaniactoni (8) the beast won’t be taimed. If it can’t have the full moon it will destroy George’s mind and take over him all the time. If the beast do not have the full moon it will destroy George and all that will be left is him body but it will be the mind of the beast.

  • Comment number 19.

cant wait till next week take care bh bloggers xxx

  • Comment number 20.

    15) that was fun when people push you, you would love to push back like that.

  • Comment number 21.

    6 days 22 hours 46 minutes. Humph!

  • Comment number 22.

I just saved my name on World of Warcraft so that when the Werewolves come in with the next Expansion I can have mine called Georgesands *G*

  • Comment number 23.

That was a great episode, loved that Sykes :D
Did Mitchell know him, was he in WW1 or 2. Oh, me being finickity

(I'll have to watch my list making now, eep)

  • Comment number 24.

Yep, still prefer Gilbert, though I did like Sykes a lot towards the end. Plus there is a chance he could return :D

Glad Annie is safe from the Men now, I wonder if her big surprise at the end of the series is deciding to go through the door? :o Hope not cos I love Annie.

I wonder if her aura reading will be used often, I suppose so or they would have made do without it. As someone said before, what must Lucy's aura show? It would definitely be complicated.

  • Comment number 25.

Thinking if that was what happened to George one moon sans release what would happen if CENssa managed to cure a werewolf who would they release on the world?

  • Comment number 26.

Lol firebird2110 (21) I haven’t started to count down yet.

I’m of to read next weeks summery. This is the first time I’ve been able to stop myself looking at the episode after the one I’m about to watch.

  • Comment number 27.

That's like a whole week! haha

  • Comment number 28.

Lioness.... Mitchell was WW1 and Sykes WW2.... plus Mitchell was Army and Sykes was RAF so no.. didn't know each other...

  • Comment number 29.

We've seen the body self-destruct if it can't transform, now we're seeing George's mind doing something similar. I wonder if Nina didn't wake until she'd turned back will she suffer the same problems?

  • Comment number 30.

Aww, I really liked Sykes! I hope we see him again! *hint hint writers!* ;)
Great episode - I laughed so much at poor George, especially correcting the grammer in the toilets! Bless him! He really needs to be with Nina again. Yeah, the new girl seems nice, but no one can compete with Nina!
Have to say, am also loving Mitchell's hair in the preview - though not quite as lovely as his curly locks! *grin*

  • Comment number 31.

ewan (25) I think if CenSSA can cure a werewolf they would kill the beast so what happened to George would not happen to them.

  • Comment number 32.

i loved this episode i am really interested to know wether nina will have the same problems as george when she wakes up as obviously they both didnt let their change run its normal course. . love this series always upset that they are so short ...

  • Comment number 33.

Enjoyed this episode but not too keen on the path Mitchell is taking at the moment

  • Comment number 34.

that was a great episode i really feel sorry for george i can see how the writers are plotting to bring nina and george back togethor now she is like a damsell in destress its good to be a great serious i can see already and i hope mitchel really has some luck trying to get the vampires clean or dispose of them!!

keeps up the good work guys!!

  • Comment number 35.

I’m starting to feel real sympathy to all the vampires trying so hard to give up blood.

  • Comment number 36.

I love waching being human best ever on tv

  • Comment number 37.

Rebecca (18) do you purley think its becase he taimed the beast for one night is going to bite him in the back so to speack. i semi agree with that though maybe his split up with nina has played a part. i mean that musta hurt along with still dealing with being a warewolf could have had a strange effect. sorry about spelling

  • Comment number 38.

does anyone know how many episodes this serise is going to be?

  • Comment number 39.

Sykes was a brilliant addition and important teacher for Annie, much like what George had in the past.

Now Annie will actually have a better understanding of what she can do with herself and how to "protect" herself from things she doesn't like to do.

George has issues that I'd really like to understand - maybe the next episode will explain these funny, yet strange moments he's been having! I was especially shocked when he attacked that man. He was petrified afterwards!

Mitchell still has issues too, but I really can't think of a good answer to his problems.

  • Comment number 40.

Another great episode! Poor, poor George...he thought he'd finally managed to control the werewolf.
Does that mean he'll continue to have all this anger until the next full moon?
    Fantastic acting by Russell Tovey.

  • Comment number 41.

    31) there is a theory that the beast is pure animal brain everything that we repress in our day to day lives given tangible form as such cannot be destroyed as it is recharged every month even if you managed to save the werewolf a month the beast would recharge for the next making the process entirely futile and dangerous as the next moon expecting not to change the werewolf would not be safe to be around

  • Comment number 42.

claire: 8 eps did you see last series?

  • Comment number 43.

Maddmaniactoni (37) I think if he continued to stop the beast taking control at the full moon it would, over time, destroy him.

  • Comment number 44.

I read there were 8 in this season

  • Comment number 45.

Oh George and his list. I'm a compulsive list maker myself so hearing his little speech, I was delighted.
I think letting Ivan drink is going to come back and bite Mitchel in the rear. I hope he finds the right path soon.
And don't get me started on Sykes cos I'll sound like a squeeling fan girl :P

  • Comment number 46.

Wow another great episode! It's so much darker than it used to be... But I think those were some of the best performances yet from all of the cast, and so many twists and turns! Although I'm yet to understand the point of Lucy, thought professor Jagat was supposed to be the big bad, in charge of Kemp and Lloyd and all the nasty experiments, but she doesn't seem very happy with what they're doing and it seems Kemp recruited her, not the other way around... I guess she's actually falling for Mitchell (who wouldn't! ;)

Loved the Annie/Sykes storyline, didn't like him as much as Gilbert but I found myself really worried for him half expecting the door to come for him at any moment! And Mitchell.. What is he doing!? Ivan is a nasty piece of work too lying to all the other vampires (although I'm sure they would be able to tell, Mitchell could smell it on Lauren when she was feeding and all the vampires he meets seem to always be able to tell that he's clean. Surely they will soon enough notice that Ivan is healthy looking and happy, and work it out?)

Poor George and his unexpected attacks of tourettes... He played that so well, Russel is amazing! The only thing I'm a bit confused about (my mum decided to start talking to me right when I was watching that bit...) is when George was lying in the cage at the end and crying, was that supposed to be the next full moon, did he accept that he has to let the wolf have its time and gave it another night in exchange for the night he had denied it before, or is he just locking himself in there at night now just in case? Or don't we know? Sorry, really lost the track of it for a minute there, will need to rewatch on iplayer as soon as possible!

  • Comment number 47.

8 episodes, Claire, which makes us half way there :o eek!

I think George has proved CENSSA can't make werewolves harmless, the wolf needs a run every month to keep it out the rest of the time.

George's new woman seems lovely, she doesn't turn and run after George goes all tourettes on her, she see's the George who is there the rest of the time. That sets a good template for her finding out he is a werewolf and accepting him as who he is for the other 27 and a half days. Don't think it can last though, he would still miss Nina and he needs her as a friend if nothing else.

  • Comment number 48.

Oops that was another essay from me wasn't it! I should really come on here more often instead of posting all my thoughts/theories all at once!

also, I laughed a lot when George actually did ask Annie to swap rooms with him! I was only joking when I said that the other day hehe

  • Comment number 49.

Things never seem to go right with George, he is starting to cope with his girlfriend running away and is moving up, he gets himself a better job. The Swearing of the rage is funny and sad at the same time.

I love how Annie gets stronger with every episode.

  • Comment number 50.

DeadlyFurniture (47) Not just that but George's new ladyfriend has a kid too, it's one thing for her not to mind what he is but would anyone really put their kid willingly in harms way by letting her cross paths with a werewolf, even a lovely one like George!?

  • Comment number 51.

    (43) Rebecca do you not think each are already being distroyed in their own way . Mitch is cultivating a gang he never believed in. George is tring to tame the beast and the beast is coming out in his day to day life, annie is tring to not go through the door in the last series she refused to go though. thay could all be thoreticaly be destroyed by themselfs, which does have a echo of human life

  • Comment number 52.

    46) We see the moon just before that scene. It appears to be in a middle stage, about 2 weeks off another full moon. I hope that answers your question. I think he locked himself up because he feels like an animal. More of a mental change than a physical one. Or maybe he was trying to force the change somehow.

  • Comment number 53.

I was wonderign about the vampires smellign blood on Ivan, maybe thats a skill only the older vampires have developed, we've only seen Mitchell and Ivan do it as far as I remember.

And I suppose Ivan could make some excuse about it taking longer to leave his system after nearly 200 years. I suppose that is a question for Toby.

  • Comment number 54.

ewan (41) maybe your right. However do you really think the beast is George’s repressed anger? If that theory was correct then if George expressed his anger by punching cushions or something during the month then nothing would happen at the full moon. Also we would at some point lose ourselves to the beast.

  • Comment number 55.

Wonder what Nina will think about George 'moving on' even though she told him to. I'm figuring a nose slightly out of joint that he did it so soon.

  • Comment number 56.

looking at the trail for ep 5 I like the idea of a ghost mum looking to get some peace and quiet and stakes and hammers oh yes Kemp is going for the full Cushing

  • Comment number 57.

Ah right. Didn't notice the moon in that scene, but I didn't think it could be full moon again without us seeing what had happened to Nina in the meantime! I just wasn't sure if he would actually transform on another night if the wolf was that pissed at him (which might actually be quite a good twist, you can't beat the wolf and if you try it claims another night as well...) or if he was just feeling rubbish about what he did to his new boss and locking himself up like an animal because of that, which really is far more likely!

  • Comment number 58.

I did wonder why the other vampires didn't smell the blood on Ivan, especially where they all hugging at the end of the meeting. My theory is they are all very wrapped up in their own stuff at the moment. They probably have such bad cravings that they can smell blood everywhere.

  • Comment number 59.

Dose anyone know how a baby can be a ghost? I thought ghosts only existed if they had unfinished business in life or need to learn about their death. A baby can’t really have unfinished jobs as they have not started any.

  • Comment number 60.

Yeah I guess maybe when the vampires are first off the blood their other senses might be affected so they couldn't pick up on things like that so easily...

I feel sorry for Nina. She doesn't know how bad the guys are who have got her yet, but she will do in time and George has given up on her already! I know she called and told him to, but i doubt she would actually expect him to have a whole new life that quickly!

  • Comment number 61.

    58) how many are really on the wagon though? some might lie to curie favor from the new king.

  • Comment number 62.

    59) there is a mother with her child a strong enough bond to keep both out from the corridor?

  • Comment number 63.

ewan (62) good idea. Why do non of the ghosts have blood on their cloths? If you drowned in the bath as a ghost would you stay wet and naked? Sorry about all the ghost q’s I’m just curies.

  • Comment number 64.

Just noticed that the iPlayer still image shows a werewolf awake in the hyperbaric chamber so maybe we should assume that Nina's wolf got to rage and she won't have been suffering like George.

  • Comment number 65.

DeadlyFurniture - I read on Friday it has been announced that Russel, Lenora and Aidan are all returning for the 3rd series so I don't think Annie will be leaving us anytime soon.

Its was a depressing episode at the very end. Like no matter what they do, it will never be good enough. Loved it though, the trio are returning to their normal selfs - ignoring their individual struggles...

    Great episode again!

  • Comment number 66.

Rebecca (59) Maybe it's the mother not the baby that's keeping them both there, if her unfinished business had something to do with the baby then perhaps she would have to keep caring for it as a reminder or something... Good question though, babies don't really have any business at all do they, let alone unfinished business!

  • Comment number 67.

Lovely video yet again Mr P :-) Lenora looks gorgeous in her interview bits - I love her hair like that. As for Bryan - well he's just brilliant isn't he :-) loved him as Sykes just wish, as I did with Alex as Gilbert, that he could've been it for a bit longer but then it just wouldn't have worked story wise I guess :-( brilliant characters though. Brilliant.

  • Comment number 68.

    63) tricky ok here goes series 1 ep 6 the vampire victim is coated in blood but only as much as was evident in ep 5 talking to Mitchell my belief (I don't speak for BHP) is that the act of death or what kills you is like a Trauma that gets blocked out at least spectrally your form is reset to the moment before.
    I think

  • Comment number 69.

    (65) Yeah, I did know they are announced, just I think we have heard before about some big revelation involving Annie at the end of this series. I was wondering what it could be after Sykes' comment at the end.

  • Comment number 70.

I like the fact that the other ghosts we meet come in and out of the storyline so quickly, even though we might love the characters and wish they could stick around longer. It adds to the feeling that Annie really is stuck there, she's not like other people she's not even like other ghosts she's different. The other ghosts come and go, like everyone else will too if she sticks around long enough, but she's still there and still the same.

  • Comment number 71.

    (63) Well when we saw Saul's ghost, his face wasn't all bloodied up, it had healed but he was still in the hospital gown. And Annie doesn't have a massive crack in her skull. I think it resets you to before you died but still keeps your clothes for some reason.

  • Comment number 72.

I adored that episode, best of the series so far m'thinks!
    Loving George's storyline.

I still don't quite get how Annie could be seen for a while & now she can't?

  • Comment number 73.

Has anyone noticed that the funeral parlor is called B. Edward's? Must admit that I am a bit of a fan of Twilight and for anyone who hasn't read the books the main characters are Bella and Edward. Maybe I'm looking too much in to this...

  • Comment number 74.

It's probably just because it's a lot easier to have all the ghosts looking pretty in their clothes than have to do all the makeup to keep smashing their face or cracking their skull or however they died, for every scene they are in :P Also if Annie had a big hole in the back of her head what would happen when people could see her, everyone would be well freaked out!

  • Comment number 75.

ewan (69) that sort of makes sense. It’s their essence that is left not the condition of the actual body when you die. So if you were shot or stabbed when you came back as a ghost the wounds would be gone. Is that what you mean?

I’ll catch up tomorrow. Good night everyone.

  • Comment number 76.

    Thanks guys xx

  • Comment number 77.

    75) yes

  • Comment number 78.

Excellent! Being Human gets better and better! Over the years (ok decades) I have seen many adaptations of the vampire and werewolf theme also enjoying ghost stories, but I find gratuitous blood, gore, violence etc pretty boring. This however, is so well written and acted that everything is within the context of the three main character's stories and is a well wrapped package. Far better than other current adaptations, well done Ö÷²¥´óÐã!
Being Human and what it means to Annie, Mitchell and George really makes one think and consider what it does mean to be human, that is of course, if you are? or not!

  • Comment number 79.

Yeah I suppose if you got blown to pieces or something but still had unresolved issues you'd make a pretty awful ghost unless it did fix you first. (Got Coldplay in my head now :D)

But yeah there is the production issue that people would think Annie looked a bit odd at the bar or something walking round with a shattered skull.

  • Comment number 80.

Monday will come soon so night all

  • Comment number 81.

i think that some people are missing the point here . . the title is being human although they are not they realy are ...take annie for instance do you not think the reason she doesn't want to go through the door is because she feels there is nothing waiting for her just like things were before she died and met george and mitchell.

  • Comment number 82.

Yes Maggie, but also the 'humans' are the normality that the monsters want to attain but which the humans prohibit. While each of the monsters present the very faces of humanity. A vampire, essentially evil, but who has developed a conscience; a werewolf, essentially good but fights an evil they see inside themselves; a ghost who has to live with selling their soul.

  • Comment number 83.

Its all about humanity really, you deascibe the show to someone, a ghost, a vampire and a werewolf share a flat. It sounds farcial and silly. But the way it is executed is so different from that, its brilliant and real, these three people just want to be normal but they never can be.

  • Comment number 84.

That's one way of looking at it but it's also increasingly about whether humanity is really a good thing for them to be aiming for at all. They all think there is something 'wrong' with them and wish they could be normal but I think what we're seeing more and more of in series 2 is what we got a glimpse of in the episode with Bernie in series 1 - that maybe 'being human' isn't all it's cut out to be.

So far with the exception of Herrick's group of vampires most of the 'supernatural' characters have been harmless and friendly. But a lot of the humans are cruel and judgemental and out to cause harm. And I think each of the main characters are slowly beginning to realise that they can't keep it separate and pretend to be something they're not but instead they have to find ways for the two to co-exist.

Nina is the exception as she is so new to that world, like George at the start of series 1 - he would have gone with CenSSA if they said they could cure him of his curse, he wouldn't have thought twice about it but since killing Herrick and accepting what he is there's no way he would willingly go now. Mitchell has realised that whatever he hated about Herrick he has to take over and do all those things because to ignore that world would be so much worse for everyone involved, and Annie spent most of the first series trying to 'resolve her death' so she could pass on - now she knows that's the last thing she wants to do.

Heh you can tell I'm stupidly tired babbling crap on a blog where everyone's gone to bed already! I'll be back on here tomorrow thinking argh what was I on about haha...

  • Comment number 85.

  • Comment number 86.

Hey, I'm still up (not sure why) but its February, Happy February, blogging humans!

Also that means the first BH books are released this thursday! (yay)

Who's buying them and which ones are you looking forward to most?
(he foolishly asks despite no one beign awake) Anyway off to bed. Night all.

  • Comment number 87.

The best thing on TV. Russell Tovey, superb!! One moment I'm laughing , the next crying and the next I'm horrified. Can't get enough of it. Brilliant.

  • Comment number 88.

Changing the subject back to the original clip -

Why would there be an advert poster at the end of a back alley~?

Ad's are placed where people (buying things type of people, not druggie tramps) will see them. So this was a thought out production and the set designers must have taken time over that image. Shame they forgot about reality.

And why that particular HP Printer type image? Looked like a stock photo from a naff on-line birthday card site.

Just intriqued me. Although my wife told me to shut up and watch the bloody programme.
My first thought was "2 happy faces smiling down as Annie struggles"

  • Comment number 89.

olracuk - i agree that was my main thought during that trying to figure out the relevance of it - i suppose it might be something to do with innocence etc but to me it looks really sinister :-S

suppose it could be representing the things annie cant do - having kids and ageing (the birthday cake) I dunno...

  • Comment number 90.

Oh and deadlyfurniture - i wont be buying the books :-S dont blame them trying to make more money out of the show but dont think they're for me - im happy just with show :-)

  • Comment number 91.

#88 OiracUK - Werewolves, vampires, ghosts...yep, reality should be high on the agenda...

And #90 Eagle-eyes, I won't buy the books, either, not even if they're picture books :)

Just finished watching Ep4. Think I need to watch it again.

  • Comment number 92.

It's wonderful that so many viewers are praising Russell's acting, but I think Lenora and Aidan deserve acclaim as well. Their characters are not as emotionally messy as George, so they may not have a chance to display their talent in every episode like Tovey does, but I think they're just as good as him.

    On this episode:

I'm sorry, but the vampire AA meetings were BAD. I had to look away in embarrassment, they were so cheesy.

I was so glad to see the return of the little interactions between George, Mitchell, and Annie!

  • Comment number 93.

Russell Tovey is a genius. How he took us from angry with to symapthy for the language teacher, the tourette's and the sadness at him realising if he drugged the wolf what might happen was great. i also liked the line 'he got off the bus' thus negating the pep talk he was getting.
why DIDN'T the vamps smell blood on Ivan? I thought that too? was he wearing very strong cologne? lol
    loved the 'two dads' line.
Mitchell is on thr Obama slippery slope of politics isn't he? but what would you have done in his sitch? think i'd have told the other vamps the truth about ivan, that he'd been an addict so long that now the thirst controlled him. do they want the same thing?
no daisy this week, i like her. goth girl soon changed her mind didn't she?
CANNOT wait for next week but then it'll be over faster! oh no TV masterpiece dilemma!

  • Comment number 94.

i really want to believe that Sykes is just what he is, someone willing to help Annie bc he didn't do the right thing back in WW2 and this is his penance, BUT that would be just so simple and easy that i also don't want to believe that's all there is. is this my inner conspiracy theorist taking over? anyone else feel like this?
also i loved the music at the end of this clip. can we find it anywhere to buy?

  • Comment number 95.

are the AA meetings so embarrassing, so bad bc they're supposed to be? are we seeing that this is a crazy idea, trying to get vamps to go off human blood? or are they just bad? :)

  • Comment number 96.

OMG!! That episode wos WELL scary!! (is it sad that i had nightmares about it??)i loved sykes, int he gorgeous! xx

  • Comment number 97.

    Morning all...

AA meetings were...funny....sorry, but when i saw the first one I laughed out loud...I don't think it was supposed to be! Sorry BH team but it was a bit surreal, especially when all these evil vampires started hugging each other...by the second and third AA meeting I was kind of getting used to it, in a strange and bizarre way...

Still unsure about Lucy...thought there was a Mitchell dilemma to be had a few blogs ago and i still think so, but Lucy seems to be having one of her own....she still unsettles me though thinking she may not be so much bad as mislead, particularly as her feelings for Mitchell seem to be solidifying more...

Poor George really is going through the mill....somehow I just can't see Nina and him parting, their relationship is too connected to just end right now...I wouldn't be surprised if they see each other before the end of S2...I am still unsure why George was sobbing in his cage. Was it because he was beginning to realise that he was kidding himself about being able to control the wolf, and that it was going to be harder to live a 'normal' life than he thought, i.e. was he ever going to be able to have a normal relationship, control the wolf side of his character, etc?

As for Mitchell, well, he's slightly becoming Herrick although nowhere near as bad....think he becomes a little worse (always room for scope there) but that he will always have a conscience and only do terrible things when he absolutely has to/for the greater good... still reckon he and Daisy have unfinished business...as have he and Lucy

One more step for Annie! Now she is supposed to have clarified her situation with closing doors so that's one extra skill she now has... wonder if she'll support her friends more now, or whether her new-found skills of reading auras/closing doors will come in useful for helping them in some way?

Come on VF....I know you're out there somewhere..

TwinA17: Hello there! Long time, no see/hear! Bet you're looking forward to next week...will keep an eye out for the little ones...how are they now? Quite big ones I'd imagine! We've had all sorts of discussions about how the babies were incorporated into the storyline but don't think any of us really had a clue....kept thinking they were Nina's and George's offspring myself!

Have also enjoyed the series so far...so much more action, still humour there but toned down a little because of the seriousness and darkness of this series compared to the first one...still totally brilliant though...glad you're enjoying it! Keep us updated on the little ones....good to hear from you!
