TOBY'S BLOG: TIME TO CLEAN UP

Being Human creator Toby Whithouse is back with his latest blog post to clear up a few of the issues you've been discussing on the blog this week...

Ok, I think we need to do a bit of housekeeping. General tidying up and dusting and so on. I assume that's what housekeeping is. I'm too rich and successful to do actual housekeeping. I have a team of people to do that for me. They're very sweet and I hope I'm a friendly and approachable boss. As long as they never speak or make direct eye contact with me.

No, in this context I'm talking about clearing up a couple of plot inconsistencies and contradictions.
So let's jump straight in.

Josie.
In series 1 she describes her first meeting with Mitchell. He walked into a bar and her legs turned into spaghetti, she said. But hang on, in episode 5 he takes her hostage! Has the production team made a glaring and embarrassing error, and has it now been left to Toby to make up some lame cover story? Is that what happened?
Basically you have a choice of two answers.
(a) Yes.
(b) Relationships don't always follow a linear pattern. Boy meets girl. Asks girl on date. Asks girl on second date. She invites him back to her house for adult cuddles.
Certainly Mitchell and Josie's relationship is far from conventional. Though it'd make quite a good dinner party conversation. "So how did you guys get together?" "Well, quite a funny story actually..."
So I think once Mitchell had returned to her at the end of episode 5, they had to start their relationship again from scratch. I think then they followed a more traditional relationship model. Bear in mind, it was through his relationship with Josie that Mitchell made a serious attempt to kick the blood. That means imposing some kind of order to what was until then an appallingly chaotic and violent lifestyle. Routine and structure would have been absolutely essential. So they literally started dating. Mitchell would have needed a reason to stay on the straight and narrow and Josie would have had to become a mixture of counsellor, parent, lover, carrot and stick. Dating is a quintessentially human habit and so would have served as a kind of occupational therapy as he attempted to renounce his old ways and become more human. So the date Josie talks about in series 1 is, I think, the first date she and Mitchell had once he had decided to devote himself to humanity. Her first date with Mitchell the man.

What happened to George's 'tourettes'?
Having drugged himself and spent the transformation unconscious in a cage, the wolf had been suppressed and started to tear through to the surface during George's 'down time'.
I think George's attack on the bullying Ross was an effective release of the wolf's rage. Plus it's something that just naturally fades into the background as the month goes on, much like George's heightened senses. Even so, it's far from an ideal solution. George can't spend the first 10 - 14 post-transformation days walking around swearing at children and beating people up. So the drugging part of the process was jettisoned straight afterwards, though the cage remains. As you'll see in ep 7.

How did Mitchell get into the paedophile's flat, and indeed Josie's flat, without being invited?
Well, the 'rule' of Vampires having to be invited into a house before they can enter would have its roots in ancient history. Probably from a time when most houses were single occupancies and not split into lots of flats and apartments. Thus the rule would apply to an entire building as opposed to single internal property. Otherwise a vampire would need to ask permission just to move from one room to another. So in both cases, all Mitchell would need to do is gain entry to the block and then he could move around from room to room and indeed apartment to apartment. I expect he and Herrick, having picked up the two doomed girls, would have paused on the doorstep of the block and waited to be invited in.
Similarly he will have got another tenant to let him into the paedophile's block and then crept into the specific property. Now of course we could have shown this, but scenes like that will take up screen time that could be better used with jokes about Tracy Beaker.

Why did Mitchell, legendary charmer that he is, become so tongue-tied with Lucy?
Well, I guess I wrote that from experience. Not just mine, but watching how friends of both sexes - clever, articulate, funny, confident people - can suddenly lose about 15 points from their I.Q. in the presence of a certain someone. I've seen smart, sexy, opinionated women literally pour tea on themselves and walk into cupboards when Aidan has walked in the room. I've seen men burst into tears or spontaneously start doing press ups when Lenora arrives. And of course the more aware of it you become, the worse it gets. "Ok this time I won't be an idiot..." And of course you are.
Bear in mind Lucy was approaching their initial meetings with the mother of all agendas, which put her in the position of control. Unconsciously Mitchell would have detected this unfamiliar power balance and it would have completely thrown him. This would be new territory for him. And he would have been completely lost there.

Right. There. I hope that all makes sense.

Hey, I've nearly finished the first draft of episode 1, series 3.
Blimey. It's bonkers.

Thanks- Interesting to hear the reasoning =]

  • Comment number 2.

Arrg beaten to the top spot

  • Comment number 3.

Oh yes I was right about how he gained entry to the flats

  • Comment number 4.

Thank you Toby. To me, the Mitch sees girl-Mitch turns into an idiot rule doesn't ring true with his persona but I'll let it slide.

  • Comment number 5.

Think Toby does a good job in explaining it all, I can see why people would walk into cupboards- who had time to look where their going with such a gorgeous vampire infront of them =] lol

  • Comment number 6.

Oh..how I can understand ladies pouring tea when Aidan enters a room! *sighs*

i think it is actually very human of Mitchell finding himself in this situation with Lucy, he's looking for redemption, looking for humanity.. and that's what this is about! His humanity is his strength at times, and his weakness other times. I guess this makes somehow sense.

Been away fromt he blog for awhile, glad to be back again, and happy as always to read Toby's words.

    Series 3 ZOMG!!

  • Comment number 7.

Thx, Toby, for the update and housekeeping all our witterings. Some really imaginative "mental gymnastics" in interpreting supernatural lore here! Ever considered a career in spin doctoring? But much appreciated!

On getting into multiple occupancies: I had a friend who was a Mormon missionary and he had to do his doorstep stuff in Canada. This was exactly how they used to get in to blocks of flats. Mumble something to get in, and then knock on doors. But it was OK to lie because it was serving the Lord's work. Sounds a bit like Kemp-lite.

Given that you are only on Ser 3 Ep 1, can we lobby for what we think should happen? My own passion would be to get Herrick back. I think you have created one of the great baddies of all time. And there is a way of doing it that is vampire-proven ...

Think you will miss Bristol though - can you make Cardiff as atmospheric, exp Totterdown?

    Love the series! Outstanding

  • Comment number 8.

Ok... with Josie line... I believe answear a), pmsl... I mean come on... they didn't go to a more conventional dating pattern! she invited him up and made mad passionate love!! And witht the entering homes I figured that much, and with the tongue tied I TOTALLY understood that and you could tell the role reversal with George too!.

Good luck with the rest of the writing of series 3!! Let's hope Ivan and Mitchell are both alive and well enough to be in it! lol!

  • Comment number 9.

I might be being really stupid here, but didn't the voice over woman at the end of the episode say there was a behind the scenes video on the explosion AND an exlcusive interview with Aidan Turner on the website. Where is the interview??

  • Comment number 10.

Thanks for clearing those up! The vampire-entering rule was what confused me most!
Wow! Series 3 already?! Can you give us any clues? *puppy-dog-eyes* ;)

  • Comment number 11.

Thanx for clearing that up toby. I can believe all of what you said.

Battering someone senseless would be a great way to release some rage and appease the wolf.

figured that something along those lines with the flats. it makes sense when you really think about it and it did save time not showing it.

In my opinion if you find that special someone you can always tell because it shaves about 20 points off of your IQ and the coordination goes right out the window. Just look at George and Nina.

roll on series 3 and lets hope George is the only werewolf in the village lol

  • Comment number 12.

looks like nina and daisy will be returning for episode 7 - george is gonna have three women to worry about now (four including molly)

  • Comment number 13.

Groovygirl... hopefully all in one room with him as that would be hilarious!! That would be too much for any man to take if they were human! Let alone including a vampire and werewolf!.... Ooooh... Sam should be a ghost... so he can go through all the supernaturals!

  • Comment number 14.

Ooh thanks for sorting all this out. This stuff has been bugging me. lol

  • Comment number 15.

Well thought out Toby! Thanks for clearing that up...

Agree with Mitchell sensing (because he is a vampire and he would have that 6th sense thing going on) that there was a difference with Lucy...shame he got the difference so wrong...not special in a nice way (trapping him in that loo, that false sobbing, knowing who and what he was for a long time before admitting it...puh-lease)...noooo...his need for normality took over and convinced him she was 'the one'...ooops...wonder what happens when he finds out the truth and I can guess that he will...and if Ivan and Daisy survive with Mitchell, what will they all do? Think Crazy Daisy and imagine...

Looking forward to Series 3, hopefully in the autumn... xxx

  • Comment number 16.

    Hahhahahahaha, Adult Cuddles !!
    - Btw I thought in the first
series on annie's grave stone it said Annie, but the series it said Anna ?

  • Comment number 17.

It's a shame Mitchell's '6th sense' - or any other sense for that matter didn't pick up when she was straddling him with a stake in her hand! I'd like that one explaining - surely he would have woken up!!

  • Comment number 18.

Thanks for that Toby ..all sounds perfectly reasonable especially George's predicament.

I'm really excited about Series 3 but like a lot of other bloggers am really going to miss Bristol!

  • Comment number 19.

Ha ha Toby you do make me laugh....OF COURSE your explanations are the correct interpretations...and no way do I suggest otherwise when I mention that Alastair Campbell's role is still available I understand...!

Totally understand how we mere mortals turn to gibbering wrecks in the presence of beautiful people like Aidan and Lenora....think that the gorgeous Russell and that little sexpot Sinead should be included in your list.

Can't think much about BH3 at the moment as so pre-occupied with the final two episodes of this series..but...my hopes for BH3 would include ....

Our heroes ( all 4 of them?) working a little more together this time to fight whatever is threatening them.
Some storyline connected to Nina's mysterious scars on her stomach.
Annie having a definite purpose which isn't connected to any other chracter in any other Cardiff based Ö÷²¥´óÐã show.
Mitchell finding another Josie..she doesn't have to be human.
Would love Herrick back but can't see how that would work.
Strong role for Ivan if he survives the massacre.

ok...I don't ask for much...love you loads Toby..and most of all...I'd love you to do most of the writing for BH3.

  • Comment number 20.

    Yay! Toby, that was great!!
I know exactly what you mean about when Aidan walks into a room......lol

I'm very very pleased to hear you've almost finished the first draft of ep1, series 3...yay again!

A few of us were discussing on Twitter last night, that it would be absolutely fantastic if you could come on here and do a "live" blog and chat with us when the series has finished...would you be up for it??

    Thanks
    xx

  • Comment number 21.

Ooh yeah pleeeeeeeeeease do a live blog at the end of the series =]]]
    very nice idea (20)

  • Comment number 22.

    (17) Same!!

  • Comment number 23.

    16) nope Anna both times

  • Comment number 24.

i cant wait for these last two eps and series 3! reali hope nina is in series 3 i think she is fab and her and george should def get bk together... they r sooo cute and luv eachother so much .... im a sucker for romance! and agree that it would be great to have a storyling including ninas scar on her tummy... god i love you, being human!!!

  • Comment number 25.

Thanks Toby the George tourettes thing was confusing me!

(george swearing at children and beating people up would be funny and cool!)

  • Comment number 26.

I reckon (and here's where Toby reads this and laughs) that the whole thing with Sam and everyone's assertions that it's all moving too quickly, all of that is building up to Nina's return to George's life. By the end of the series, I reckon George will realise that his heart truly lies with Nina. I certainly hope so, anyway - she's a far more interesting character! Sam's just too... nice. With all the connotations.

  • Comment number 27.

    (26) i agree.... well i very much hope that happens anyway!

  • Comment number 28.

Lol, madness... fits in theory but not quite right... (the whole first meeting thing)

  • Comment number 29.

the clock ticks down to episode 7 soon after that the time left before episode 8 will rival the anticipation to episode 1 and questions will be answered if my guess is right Nina and Kemp will turn up after the 27th meaning there will still be George and Nina alive for episode 8. there was I think talk of Daisy covered in blood I think that will be Lloyd but I'm not to sure after all he isn't Kemp's only flunky but he's the one we all know. one thing I don't know is the parents evening George is going to have to hurry if he is going to get to the cage on time will Sam follow him to find out his dark secret?

  • Comment number 30.

Good to clear up the two Josie stories, I wasn't sure if Toby had an explanation worked out at the time or if it was just a case of rewriting the past and not worrying about continuity. I'm glad there can be some reasoning added to it. Ahh don't you just love continuity.

I think someone suggested the thing about Mitchell being let into the block of flats and you're right, Tracey Beaker jokes are far more important than a scene of a random person letting Mitchell into the building.

I think I might have even suggested the solution to the Tourettes thing so go me. And I think its great that we see Mitchell can't charm everyone, I think Lucy's disinterest might have even attracted him more, she wasn't falling at his feet like every other girl.

Yay! Thanks for these answers, I do love to hear from the man upstairs. I'm making Toby sound like God now, but he nearly is :D Praise to you, oh Genius Writer, who shall we blow up for you?

    Series 3 episode 1 exists :o Excited! :D

  • Comment number 31.

Nina was attacked by an old boyfriend wasn't she?I know she showed the scars to George and explained it.

Thanks for the info Toby. Any chance of borrowing your helpers for my housework?
Really looking forward to how this series goes, but I also do not want it end, this has been such a great one. The writing, acting and direction has been spot on.

  • Comment number 32.

omg you're on series 3! so can't wait but as the end of the series looms, i feel myself not wanting it to end!but so looking forward to episode 7 this sunday!!

  • Comment number 33.

    Oh lol haha

  • Comment number 34.

i can completely understand the comment about mitchell - having turned completely bright red and unable to articulate when i met aidan turner....

i did wonder about the story with josie... as it didn't seem to match up - thanks for clarifying...

the tourettes was just brilliant with george - a stroke of genius. how on earth is he going to be able to mask the wolf now he is shacked up with the new woman

i agree with above... i think mitchell was lost without a woman overtly lusting him and playing into his hands... so to speak!

i parked my car today in the car park from episode 1(?) of series 2. i did muse to myself, however, that even though aidan turner is one of the most beautiful men alive - would i really, in reality, want to bump into a vampire....? me thinks no - although in my gothic teens it would have probably been an exciting prospect. i always struggle to get out of that car park. today i couldn't work out how to pay with a debit card. there's a little opening to the wonders of my mind!!

i don't want this series to end....

  • Comment number 35.

    (34) Willing to bet you aren't the only one who thinks about Being Human in their spare time. Not by far. :) And absolutely certain you aren't the only girl to think about Aidan Turner in their spare time. :D

Damn TV sexism, blatantly unbalanced ratio of male nudity : female nudity. :]

    "Dear Points of View, ..."

  • Comment number 36.

Hi! I'm an American viewer who has been watching the entire series online. I don't even get Ö÷²¥´óÐãA where I live, but I was told about the series by a friend and I've grown to love the show! (Especially Aiden Turner!!! - seriously... we just don't grow them like that over here!) Anyway, I saw this post and just had to comment. I love shows that make sense and build a mythology that is unique to them. And I absolutely hate it when a show just breaks continuality and ignores it and doesn’t take the time to address the fan's concerns. So THANK YOU Toby! You are an awesome writer and congrats on the third series!

  • Comment number 37.

34 - When did you meet him !! / and i could just see myself tripping over some 6inch heels trying to kiss him or fainting in my underwear when he walked into the room haha embarrestment at its best, i wonder what is aidan's most embarresing moment? OMG SERIES 3 !!!!!!!!
AAHAHAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH ! most exciting news yet !
woop wooop I LOVE BEING HUMAN !

  • Comment number 38.

btw 35) I do think about aidan and being human in my spare time too ;)

  • Comment number 39.

    38 - Me too! *biggrin*

  • Comment number 40.

    Right there with you (38 & 39) =]]]

  • Comment number 41.

I suppose with nothing else to do I can tell the connection of the week Jimmy the diver who died in the car accident was the Goon in archers Goon a CÖ÷²¥´óÐã program on the same time of day but not of week as Blue Peter in '92 when according to her grave Annie would have been 7 and learning to make paper flowers for her mum.

not important information but it passes the time working these things out

  • Comment number 42.

Oh yes a play list is up on the i player episode 6 page

  • Comment number 43.

I shall be reading this in full tomorrow, I'm just so tired now, work, shopping, pancakes and the like

  • Comment number 44.

Just been re-watching/reading some of the old blog posts and I hope Toby gives us a little hint to series 3 as he did with this series at the end of series 1 (with the threat changing from supernatural to humans) Oooh Im just too excited...

  • Comment number 45.

    Thank you Toby!

This has defo sorted out a lot of my queries! All our theries we've been blogging had totally boggled my mind!

Loving this season and cannot wait for season 3! Thanks :)

  • Comment number 46.

HAha how sad we sound all we do is think about a show hahaha oh well :)

  • Comment number 47.

It is a little sad but the show is just too good- can't help but think about it all the time lol

  • Comment number 48.

yeppp, Aidan is too hot to forget, and a show as memorable as that well ..

  • Comment number 49.

The multiple occupancy thing, George's tourettes wearing off even Mitchell becoming tongue-tied around Lucy - I can buy all of that.

But re. Josie, sorry Toby/BH team I feel it's more like a) because in that ep in S1 she makes it sound like that was when she met him for the first time and she gives no indication of having met Herrick before and he gives no indication of remembering her (OK maybe all the victims just blended into one) but even if Josie wasn't told Herrick's name surely you would remember a meglomaniac ginger vampire?! I mean, I know it was the 60s but come on.

  • Comment number 50.

Well, Personally I think a better cover up story for the hole Josie thing would be ether:
The brain sometimes Likes to cover up painful or hard to believe events and Josie Clearly forgot how she really met Mitchell, and the next more peaceful time she met him was at a bar when her legs went spaghetti.

    OR

She didn't want to mention or remember the darker side of Mitchell and desided at making up a normal more human story.

  • Comment number 51.

Is that better for you being human ?

  • Comment number 52.

As a late reply to (9- bh82) I think the interview that the voice-over woman was talking about was intergrated onto the behind the scenes explosion video

  • Comment number 53.

thanks for taking the time to do this - you are kind to us -

like some of the others I think you missed your vocation as a spin-doctor? - but nice tries. As we would expect from such an imaginative writer.

btw - congratulations on yet more award nominations for the show and the writing - and you can even take some credit for the actors' nom's - they always say it's the lines

  • Comment number 54.

    -_- spin doctor?

  • Comment number 55.

hellow im on now finnaly :P
shameless is amazing but why is she cheating on him? or was it not her i couldn't tell :S

  • Comment number 56.

BTW I saw the "why vampire's bite" program :) So glad you were init !

  • Comment number 57.

erm Shephers_pie LOL, I dont know i havent watched it yet hahahha

  • Comment number 58.

never seen that show but anyway it seems nice by the name :) :) :)

  • Comment number 59.

    Hahha, ITS AMAZING

  • Comment number 60.

    OkAy :D:D:D

  • Comment number 61.

eagle_eyes has been very quiet the past couple days. Is he/she alright?

  • Comment number 62.

thats very true romfort. & vampfan is too .. ?

  • Comment number 63.

    I hope they are alright

  • Comment number 64.

'They're valued members of the online community', to misquote Mitchell. I do apologise, I felt like watching an episode of series 1 today and somehow watched three. Ooops :D

I wonder if I would be missed if I didn't post for a few days? (*Desperately fishes for reassurance that he is loved*)

  • Comment number 65.

    ...... silence......
    lol joking of course =]
I think what makes the blog good is all the different bloggers -so all would be missed if were not here (including you 64)
Yeah i find that happens too- i put it on to watch an episode and half my day has gone! not a bad thing tho, as it is so excellent

  • Comment number 66.

I know, Will I be missed ? I dont think anyone pays that much attention to me, so i can be missed ..

  • Comment number 67.

Haha thanks AmeliaRose, for pitying me :D We do get a lot of different folk here on the blog, I think I would miss anyone's input too. Aww int that nice of me. :)

I'll probably end up finishing watching series one over the next few days and I shall watch Josie's episodes with her kidnap backstory in mind and see if it all makes sense to me still. Well don't I live an interesting life? :D

  • Comment number 68.

    CANT*

  • Comment number 69.

Me thinks more fishning is going on.. but yes 66 you shall be missed too.
Now I hope you will return the favour and tell me I would be miss aswel...? =]

  • Comment number 70.

Ah 67 a good idea I shall try that too- haven't watched that for a while, have been caught up in the excitment of series 2 but would definitly be interesting to reflect...

  • Comment number 71.

    Yes of course !! 70 !

  • Comment number 72.

I have been on here since the start .. and its all still very interesting :)

  • Comment number 73.

Yeah I've been a fan from the beginning but came writing on the blog slightly late. However haven't revisited S1 for a while- but that is all about to change lol =]

  • Comment number 74.

Now now, we must veer away from an endless cycle of complimenting eachother. We'll assume everyone will be missed by everyone shall we?

Anyway something I noticed the other day, from George's dialogue about his job and Sam saying he is a porter, he seems to have got his job back at the hospital pretty quickly. I wonder if we get any more scenes of him there? Hospital scenes seem to be getting less and less frequent as we go along this series.

Wonder what jobs the trio (or maybe just George and Mitchell) will have in series 3? They can't stay at the hospital and pay that bridge toll every day, it would be about an hour's wages. New jobs in Cardiff hospital maybe? Or somewhere different?

It would seem wierd having them in any other uniform (cool off, ladies) than their scrubs.

  • Comment number 75.

Lol yes had to take a minute to calm down ...
But hospital scenes seemed to be used when the vampires were killing as so as they were stearing clear of the 'hard stuff' as Ivan likes to put it maybe there has been less need for it as there have been less deaths...?

  • Comment number 76.

Yeah, it was either bodies coming into the hospital or scenes between George and Nina or Mitchell and Lucy which happened less and less when they started actually seeing eachother outside of work.

Shame, but a change of scenery will probably be good for the show, plenty of new characters and situations to deal with.

The funny thing is, as we speak, there is a script somewhere of series three that probably answers all our questions. :o

  • Comment number 77.

Lol, it is true but speculation is always fun.
Yeah will miss Bristol tho and they're lovely house =[ will be sad to see them leaving but yes im sure Wales will be very interesting. Not sure what sort of jobs they could do if not hospital cleaners... as they would need to have flexible hours and would need to not attract too much attention

  • Comment number 78.

    Yes here's the checklist:
    - flexible hours, so full moon shifts can be avoided
    - low profile, to hide from 'everything'
    - access to packaged blood to stave off cravings (that bits not canon as I got it form one of the novels)
    - possibly a place to transform e.g the isolation room
    - on the borders of life and death, bit of a wierd one but apparently vampires feel more comfortable that way

Saw this today, its on a real life CenSSA type website (old amateur bloggy CenSSA that is, not militant explodey CenSSA (God, that capitalisation is hard work))

It made me laugh cos it looked a bit like Annie from a distance with the grey cardigan over the white top. Sadly the zoomed in one reveals it to be someone else. It would be convincing if we didn't live in the modern age where the powers of Photoshop exist. That and the original source is the Sun doesn't scream credibility.

  • Comment number 79.

'On the boarders of life and death' is interesting- does fit well with a hospital but not much else lol.
Look forward to seeing what really happens coz im at a bit of a loss unless they find another hospital in wales..?
ah yeas see a resemblance.. =]

  • Comment number 80.

Maybe that whole thing was just crazy Herrick speak, I don't think its the most pressing matter for Mitchell.

I wonder if George and Mitchell will work in the same place, I hope so because their scenes together are always good, but maybe George will try and get a more challenging job, I suppose it was no success last time to say the least but if he made sure the wolf got his run that month he could manage it.

  • Comment number 81.

Been working so a bit late onto blog, but was nice to have Toby's explainations. Glad we are getting Nina & Daisy back this week. Does it mean Ivan isn't dead if he is in cast list for Ep7? I do hope he isn't - really got to like his character, especially his quip about Argos! Am getting slightly sad that we are nearing the end of Series 2 especially as it's moving away from Bristol - boo hoo.
Have great understanding of Toby's comment about strong women going week at the knees at the sight of Aidan. I was with my Dad outside BRI in October & saw Aidan about to cross the road - when he realised I was staring at him, he gave that cute little grin & I was a mess, especially as my Dad shouts "why are you flirtng with starnge men on the street?" at that point, I felt about 5 years old & felt unable to go and chat with Aidan. I did get the chance to meet him however at the screening of Ep1 Series 2 & I did find it hard to get words out & not to stare tooo much!

  • Comment number 82.

Yeah I think they should work together, esp as the scenes with 2 or 3 or the trio are always so funny.
Yeah the tranquilizer wasn't the best idea although I thought it would have worked.. Would def have to be very careful as the new people usually get attention anyway.

    (81) Ivan could be just in a pre-titles scene from the past as someone pointed out earlier. But I reckon because we saw a body, he must be alive, vampires don't seem to leave dead bodies if you think of Lauren or Herrick.

But you never know, we were promised a main character death, weren't we? Would you call Ivan a main character?

Don’t know whether the tired hysteria is starting to set in or whether it is just that funny but love the crossing the street story literally bust out laughing =] Where is the illusive Aidan hiding out? I have yet to have an embarrassing experience where I bump into him and suddenly loose the ability to speak =[

  • Comment number 85.

Deadly (83) not sure I would call Ivan a main character, but pretty close & I just think the character has so much charisma - I do struggle with the fact that Ivan & Daisy haven't been together since Ep1. If they are so in to each other (or is it just him into her) then you would think they would be together more.
I agree about the vampire dead bodies bit.
So if Ivan isn't a main character, who do we think the main character death is?

  • Comment number 86.

Ooh don't rememer hearing aobut tht promise but I hope it's not Ivan, yeah I think if we saw his body he must have survived but thats not to mean that he will stay alive
    - remember the ep where Mitchell had to feed from older Josie because he was so weak, may be the same sort of thing..?

Amelia (84) yes all my friends that I have told the crossing street story to find it highly amusing! Just be ready Amelia & make sure you are not with your Dad! The funny thing is I am NEVER lost for words, what do we think it is that Aidan has? I have not been like this since I was 14 & that was a looong time ago!

  • Comment number 88.

Well, I don't think it can be any of the main three, as far as I know they are confirmed for series 3.

If Toby was being evil then I would have to say Nina? If it can be a main character who we don't like then it could be Kemp, or Lucy and I'll even throw in Lloyd, there you are, Mr Toby now leave Nina alone, okay?! :'(

    :D Joking (sort of)

  • Comment number 89.

I agree Deadly that Nina has to stay! She's one of my favourites. Would Toby be that evil? You can kill Lucy off, never trusted or liked her from day one, so it proves what a good actress she is to stir up such feelings!

  • Comment number 90.

Lol I am glad it wasn't just me then..
Well apart from being utterly gorgeous he is also very charming and funny
    *sighs*
Moving on.. lol.. Yeah it could be one of the evil 3 (Kemp, Lloyd or LucyBF) Would be better for one of them to go than Nina or Ivan
I have convinced myself that the main trio will be fine, they have to be

  • Comment number 91.

Well Amelia & Deadly - am off to sleep now. More conjecture saved for another day!

  • Comment number 92.

Yes I hope to be heading that way soon too although not sure how likely that is ..

  • Comment number 93.

Well, I'll be off now, I suppose, not sure if anyone is even awake in Blogland (Amelia? Are you there? :o )but if they are then I wish them a good night. :)

You never know what tomorrow will bring in Blogtown, new clips? Maybe my book will arrive? Maybe I should stop taling to myself and go to bed.

Couple of things - not buying the Josie retcon, but since the ep was superb and it was truly heartwarming to see her, I'm not bovvered.

Next, if Ivan carks it that'll be one of the best characters gone. Not that there can't be more great characters of course, but I'll really miss his loyalty, world-weariness, cynicism and Kate Bush tapes.

Last - and this isn't a spoiler - Toby or someone said that next year the threat would be from within. If Nina's back (please!) it could be her, or one of the three amigos. Or if Sam and Molly hang around, it could be Molly. Kind of like the Evil!Willow storyline from Buffy, a series Toby didn't watch.

Anyway, excellent to have the vamplore cleared up. Ta, Toby.

  • Comment number 95.

    I am working , I swear....ssshhhh....

Anyway, just a very quick post to say thankyou for clearing all of that up! Driving us BH-mentalists crazy(ier)!
And cant wait for series 3......squeee!

PS - For the record, the whole pouring tea on yourself/walking into cupboard trick is me all over! But last time I walked into a cupboard I was on the phone & gave myself a black eye whilst simultaneously terrifying the person at the other end. Ooops!

I actually think that Ivan is dead which is why Mitchell and Daisy team up to seek revenge in episode 7--for Ivan and the dead vampires.
I read on Wikipedia that vampires can also be killed by damage to the brain--as in a serious blow to the head. In the view of Ivan lying on the floor he was bleeding heavily from the head, you could see all the blood around his head, perhaps the explosion killed him and not the fire, brain damage.I would regard Ivan as one of the main characters this series.

  • Comment number 97.

Deadlysecret, I'm not entirely buying what it says on Wiki as I don't know who's updating it. They've inferred that since Ivan appears to be dead, it must be possible to kill a vamp in the BHverse by a blow to the head.

All I know, however, is that they can be torn apart by werewolves without the body going up in smoke (I believe there was some referenceto the room having to be cleaned up) while Lauren went smoky after Mitchell staked her. I don't think we saw what happened to Seth's body.

It may well be true - sadly - that Ivan is now ex-Ivan, but I'm holding on to hope because he's fab. If the Mitchell and Daisy thing you've mentioned is a given which I haven't seen, it unfortunately looks like he's a goner.

    94) My theory is that if Mitchell survives he will be having trouble with rehab theres a danger for you.

  • Comment number 99.

16 midnight) Nope, it is and always has been Anna Sawyer.

  • Comment number 100.

Mitchellinmarigolds (97) I know what you mean about where they are getting their information from, how accurate is it--but in fact it stated that Ivan would be killed by an explosion before the episode was shown, soooo? Mitchell and Daisy--the episode guide here actually tells us that they plan revenge together, click on the summary here for episode 7. I do think Ivan's gone, his name appearing in the cast list could just be because we see him at the start, or flashbacks to him.I think he is the main character going---or Nina who doesn't seem to have any mention for series 3 unlike the others.
