Perhaps the Vampires' 'condition' and it's seemingly on-the-heat-of-the-moment characteristic prevents the Vampires from being overly long-term thinkers? I mean, they can plan world domination but at the same time (esp if they're still feeding) won't be able to plan where their next meal will come from, but just kill as they feel like it?

if vampires in the future take over humanity and kill it all
either they are suicidal and soon will be at each other throat by lack of blood
or
they have stopped needing it
if they do not need blood, they may consider humanity as irrelevant as possibly neanderthal was to sapiens sapiens
remove the blood lust, they are just like us , physically stronger, possibly a tad more intelligent and without the blood lust able to who knows what scientific experiment they would like to consider
hence in the future, thry really want to conquer the world and we are the weakest link, plus contrary to humans they can interact with the socalled after life possibly another dimension our own civilization cannot apprehend
more the dimensions, bigger the power
so we have
- no need for human blood
- superiority when it comes to dimnsion and apprehension, not fear, but understading of our world
the only thing missing when it comes to homo sapiens vampiris superior is
reproduction
all the stronger, better, smarter etc species have outwitted their predecessors by being able to reproduce better when the mass extinction came/comes/will come
reptiles outsmart amphibians, mammlian reptiles burdened by early furs go back to burrows while the weather makes it easier, wide brush strokes here the dinos, post meteoritic nuclear winter removes plant eaters dinos thus no need for flesh eating reptiles in favour of furry masurpials etc etc
in short the battle is won by whom can have more offsprings
but vamps can't have kids, right????

However, as we've had 2037 previews, it seems that they've finally worked out how to do it so it runs smoothly - and I think that'll come clear in this series, or at least be suggested at?

So @336 from the last blog:
Concerning what Mitchell said to Josie: I get the impression that it is kind of different for every vampire. Mitchell was obviously feeling a lot of guilt, so he would indulge himself to forget. But he still liked the feeling of power it gave him over other people as he admits to Lia -he's addicted to that feeling. So it's not only about the forgetting part.
After all, you start out without a guilty conscience, so what drives you too massacre people in the first place (I'm not talking about killing someone through merely sating your bloodlust, but committing actual mass murder) if it's only about evading your past deeds.
To me, this sounds a bit like another excuse of Mitchell to lay the blame on something else than himself and not admit that a part of him just doesn't want to abstain from blood. Imo, it may be true, but judging by many of the vamps behaviour, it's not the whole truth.
Hal certainly doesn't seem to indulge himself to forget about his victims (in the flashback), but because he loves it.

@18 I'm not sure every vampire would actually allow the plan though, surely some of them would put up a fight, " You're killing off my drug/food supply" but I'm really not sure I just don't think the Vamps are all that clever and want to feel big. If you think about it they're the weakest of the Supers, they're under a constant craving for their "drug" and perhaps it's sort of ...Whole Species Apathy where they all feel realy pathetic about it and want to feel big and tough like the weak bully on the playground?
@17 I'm not sure they've ever "needed" the blood, look at Hal he's not on his blood but he's doing over 100 press ups a day and is pretty ripped in general if it was a physical need for it rather than just the craving and want for it then surely he'd be physically weak? It can't be all of that powerful an addiction anyway they don't exactly have withdrawal symptoms when they stop. I just generally think that becoming a vampire and having lost control at one point ( as they all probably do) it flicks something in their heads that, whilst they're live feeding, makes them ENJOY it.

He'd always been with his dad and then with George, will be interesting to see what he chooses to do now the choice is his own, will he go to the woods or the basement?
