Domesday Reloaded Project. Back in 1986, the Ö÷²¥´óÐã launched a campaign to record every day life throughout the UK for future generations to look back on. Millions of volunteers took photos of their area, wrote about their days and it was all compiled together. Now, 25 year's later, the
archive has been re-opened for people [you!]Ìýto update their area and make a note of the UK in 2011. The archive closes at the end of the month, so we thought we'dÌýgo back in time, andÌýdo a special on the yearÌý1986 in music, with Across The Line itself beginning on that year as 'The Bottom Line'.

The Smiths – The Queen is Dead

Released six days after I was born The Smiths ‘The Queen is Dead’ is one of the most seminal indie albums in history. Track for track it is the strongest Smiths record and widely revered in many of the top albums ever lists. Johnny Marr’s dexterous guitar playing and Morrissey’s bombastically ostentatious lyrics set to the rock hard rhythm section of Joyce and O’Rourke simply formulates my favourite indie band ever.

Hundreds of Snow Patrol fans queued overnight at the weekend battling the elements in hope of free tickets for the band’s MTV European Music Awards gig at the City Hall.Ìý

On this week's Across The Line radio show, our special house band is in the form of Martin Byrne's Ìýproject. From January 1st 2011, Martin Byrne has been writing, recording and performing (with the help of some guests) a brand new original piece of music every day. He's set to carry on doing this to January 1st 2012, which safely qulifies him (we reckon)Ìýas one of the most prolific musicans in the world today.

While I've barely mustered an iota of interest in anything they've released in the last ten years, I'll never grow tired of their first 8 albums. Every one is completely different, a total reinvention. And just as it is with the Beatles, a proper REM fan struggles to name his/her all time favourite song or album - it changes all the time, matching your mood and your outlook.
